Crack europlus

Food and other refreshments will be provided by Steve what a champ! I was, however, quite involved in the Mac community, which ended up seeing me start my Mac consultancy in I engage with the community in other ways, sometimes just participating in conversations, but, more importantly, also trying to find ways to give back to the community that has given me so much.

I hope this post will serve as inspiration to others and give them ideas on how they might be able to contribute to their retrocomputer community — every little bit really does count. Try to keep all contributions positive. This is most especially applicable when dealing with new members of the community. You might know the answer immediately, or know which manual you have to open — you might even find yourself firing up some equipment to check behaviour.

For example, a question was asked on the KansasFest Discord about converting a vector PICT file — modern programs were having issues interpreting it. And guess what? Under macOS Mojave Just jump right in and try things out when helping your fellow enthusiasts — in and of itself, overcoming such technical challenges can be rewarding.

In several DTP jobs, this led to using Fontographer to create bespoke fonts for customers to simplify logo and symbol use in their work. When I started getting back into retrocomputers, I wanted to recreate the feel of one of my first printers, the Apple Silentype.

With that in hand, I released the original version of my Silentype font in March Because of character rendering changes in OS X, I had to tweak the font and released v2 in December I released it under the Open Font License so that others could work on it if they wish. Chris Torrence has done something similar with another font I always intended to work on, Motter Tektura.

Not wanting to duplicate effort, I now just use his font and am happy to see it available before I got a chance to work on my own version. Once again utilising my experience in publishing and editing, I have proof-read a few items for different projects, most significantly early versions of the.

This helps the community as the documents have had more review, and being non-technical is in some ways an advantage as I will request details to try and make sure technical material is clear to cater to all levels of readers. Many retrocomputer enthusiasts know of Jason Scott, who not only works at the Internet Archive but also maintains his own archives of information from and relating to BBSes.

I ended up with about screenshots with details to transcribe, which had about 1, BBS listings many of which were, of course, duplicates. Jason is incorporating these details into his main list, and many Apple ][ BBSes will now be findable. On and off, this took me three months to complete. Speaking of the Apple II Crackscreen Twitter image bot, it inspired me to create my own image bot, the Applesauce Fluxes bot, which tweets random flux.

I just love the variety and beauty of the Applesauce flux images, I felt I had to share them with the world! This is one which gets more critical every day as bits rot, pages moulder, collections are trashed upon death bleak, I know , and knowledge and expertise fade. I have an Applesauce I make available to WOzFest attendees, and others are brought to spread the load.

Attendees bring scanners for scanning at WOzFests , and many attendees are scanning while at home, too. Reach out to other enthusiasts and find out how you can contribute material, time or effort to this very worthy cause. With a reduction in e-waste collections generally in Sydney, I continue to offer to hold material for people, including WOzFest attendees, and will periodically visit the local Community Recycling Centre, which accepts e-waste and is only 5 minutes drive away.

Figure 3. Disk ][ Analog Card. Two more screws and a cable will give ready access to the drive mechanism. The 74LS and MC chips are also highlighted. Figure 4. Disk ][ head cover. Figure 5. Disk ][ bare mechanism. The drive head is now accessible, as are the rails the mechanism travels along. Figure 6. Disk ][ read write head. Lift the pad to access the actual drive head — isopropyl alcohol seems to clean it well.

It booted successfully into the Apple ][ Dealer Diagnostics disk! It passed the Keyboard Test! I found a Silentype Interface Card Test amongst the menu options!

A parcel arrived from Bulgaria today: 36 rubber feet to replace those on the bases of my europluses. Some of the existing feet are missing, some have been replaced with screw-on ones, and some have just migrated over time like some weird micro-scale Ha!

Have I made much progress since the last update? Maybe not in the grand scheme of things, but I have done a few things…. I also put one of my new Synertek s into my new favourite europlus , as well as an NE chip which was missing from the motherboard and tried to boot it up. So there may be a problem with the Return keyswitch.

I was reasonably settled in thinking, going by serial numbers, that I had mid-age to very young europluses see my europlus Census. However, my realisation that there was a lot of variation in the motherboard green colours led me to look more closely at them all and I realised that one motherboard had dark green rather than black slots with feet with fixing screw holes…and that got me looking at that motherboard more closely still see Figure 1 below.

I knew I had two of the three replaced s in the antistatic tube my last unused 65C02 was in. Their date codes were and , which seemed consistent with the date codes on the other 65C02 motherboards in and and respectively. Luckily, I knew where that box was, and when I checked, bingo! We discussed with 4am and Jason the challenges they face in their quest for software preservation, and discussed their successes so far, as well as other issues and topics related to preservation in general and specifically of software.

Before we ordered pizza in, I announced the big surprise for attendees: Hans Coster author of Caverns of Mordia had deprotected and updated the adventure game, and attendees received a limited edition physical disk and printed manual see this post for more details. It can also be run with one or two batteries.

Jon is still working on the driver software, but Manila Gear is hoping to have the board available by December this year. As always, attendees worked on their own projects — or the projects others brought along — throughout the event.

Jon worked on the keyboard to get several non-functioning keys up and running. Andrew who brought some apple cider, aged double Brie and crackers — thanks! It topped out at Hopefully this ongoing project will reach fruition soon. It seems odd to see the badge on an old-style case like that. Attendees, feel free to add any other details in the Comments below. Look for the announcement next year!

Hold the presses! OK, so this is too late to count towards my Retrochallenge entry, given that October is so well and truly over, but I have a little bit of extra info for my europlus census…. This is an object lesson in revisiting assumptions, or at least periodically checking on things you were told when your knowledge base meant you took that information on face value.
