Hi, I have mb ish of these above files in my windows directory. Assuming i'm happy with the system and have no desire to roll back any of my Windows Updates, can I safely remove these files? I'm low on disk space, but can't figure out why, so these are the first to get the chop! Rgds, Dan. You may just want to delete those say with folder dates older than 30 days. On this date, David H.

Lipman extended this wisdom for the consideration of other readers Maybe so, but IE ignores the setting for how much disk space you want allocated and just goes on a HD spending spree by putting the files into some kind of hidden area in the temp folder. I would sudgest using Disk Cleanup utility from the system drive properties and see how much space you can gain there.

You could also compress old files and that should free even more space. You could if you havent already done so move the paging file on a separate drive or a dedicated partition. Check the log size and eventually move the location. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. I've done all the suggestions you've made and I bought some time.

But now none of the suggestions frees a MB anymore. I ran TreesizeFree Portable and found that the folder I mention use up a lot of space and hence the question. I personally feel that this is a bit too much and decided to delete those folders. I really can't think of a situation why I wanted to uninstall a Microsoft update that I installed a while ago. Note that leftovers remain in the Windows Registry if you delete the files manually. To remove those as well, do the following before you delete the folders:.

There is a second option which is by far the better option in most cases. You can run the Disk Cleanup Tool to remove old patches from your system to free up space. Click on the ok button to start the process. As you can see, Windows may be able to free lots of storage on the system.

In fact, these folders are also created when Automatic Updates install, NOT only if you install a patch manually.
